San Diego Chargers’ linebacker Shawne Merriman has been arrested for choking Tila Tequila, real name Tila Nguyen.
According to a press release, police were called to Merriman’s home in Poway, California early Sunday morning where Tila claimed she was choked and restrained.
Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Steadman says:
“[Nguyen] made a citizen’s arrest.”
Merriman was charged with battery and false imprisonment and was taken into police custody, but as of Sunday afternoon an official at the county’s central jail said there was no one by that name in custody.
Steadman says after an investigation is complete the results will be given to the district attorney’s office, which will decide whether to charge Merriman.
Tila was taken to Pomerado Hospital, but it was unknown of her condition.
